But if it is not emptied when full or if filters are not cleaned or if water is sucked up or if the machine is used daily like in a hotel it may last less than a year. Their is a HEPA filter on the unit and it has bags that are supposed to trap more in them. Switch out the bag inside about once every 3 months if you are vacuuming once a week.
