Is Dyson brand vacuum cleaner a bunch of hype for a piece of junk?
A local vacuum guy told me his opinion was that they’re junk. He had some on his floor for sale but didn’t recommend it. And, when I was talking to him a girl came in who cleans homes for a living and she said she could substantiate what he said. She agreed they are overpriced junk. Do you have any experience with a Dyson, and if so what’s your opinion??

I love the one I have.
No, they really are very good
they’re decent (and highly priced) vacuum cleaner. personally, i would go with oreck.
its the best vacume That i have ever owned.and i have owned a lot .works great flexable to use.worth the price
Personally, I love mine. I’ve had it for 2 years and never had a problem.
it’s a piece of junk……I hated it!!! retuned mine as soon as i could…don’t waste your money!!!!
I have a friend that has one ,she loves it. I never used one I like kirby.
My mom bought one and she ended up returning it because she said it was junk. For a decent vacuum I would suggest a Hoover wind tunnel. Also if you have plush carpet, the self propelled are easier to push. I would say if you do end up with the Dyson, save the receipt, you’ll need it.
People tend to love their Dyson mainly because they can see the dirt being gathered. It doesn’t necessarily perform better at cleaning. It’s true that the cyclone filtration doesn’t clog like a bag, but it’s also true that you’ll likely get a lungful of dust each time you try and empty it in your trashcan.
Other plus points are that it’s lightweight, and has the accessories attached.
A far better cleaner is the Kirby. Although it’s heavier, it is streets ahead at cleaning carpets, upholstery, even mattresses etc., and can wet/dry clean too. Main gripe with the Kirby is that you have to change the front attachment to use the hose; it’s not integrated. But they’re durable, made of aluminum and can be serviced & run for years and years. Check the second-hand or classified ads for one — they’re not sold in shops, they’re only sold direct (i.e. door-to-door) and the list price is a rip-off as it contains a lot of commission for the salesman. We got ours for £300 I think.
I have a Dyson and I love it.
We’d had what we thought were pretty lousy experiences with some other well known makes (I’m not being elusive, I just can’t think of the brands right now). Then, we bought a wool rug for our (new) babies’ room — little realizing how badly 100% wool rugs shed — and the vacuuming before our babies came home actually broke our other vacuum. My husband went to buy a new vacuum, sick to death of having them break down on us after just a couple of years, and came home with a Dyson. (Although knowing him he read up on it first.) We’ve been very happy with it. The wool rugs are…something I’ll never buy again, or at least not for a kids’ room….but the Dyson has both stood up to it and made a pretty bad rug situation absolutely fine. My only complaint, actually, is that the suction is so strong that it may be too much depending on the type of flooring you’re dealing with.
As an aside, while I’m sure it’s not exclusive to Dyson, I am thrilled with how easy it is to clean/maintain.
Considering we’ve had other major brands break down in just a couple of year’s time I already feel like we’ve gotten our money’s worth (in relative terms) from the Dyson. And hey, my toddlers seem to get a thrill out of the big purple thing in the house.
I have a friend who owns a vacuum cleaner shop. He loves them!!!! They are always breaking down and he makes a ton of money on the repairs. They are very over hipped and over priced. Those are his comments, not mine!!!
I have one and love it. I bought it because it has a 5 year warranity. I bought a Hoover wind tunnel and paid almost 100.00 for it and it only lasted 8 months – the front wheels broke off.
Get a baby elephant. Wilma Flintstone swears by it.
I love mine.
Your vacuum man is 100% right! Once, i when to sears to see if all this talk about Dysons were true. I put down some pet hair, and small paper. IT WOULD NOT PICK IT UP! Why spend so much moeny on a vacuum thats junk. Go a head and say it, it’s “crap”.
The hoover windtunnel outperformed the dyson in tests by one testing co. Personnally, I looked at buying one until I figured out I could buy 3 or 4 hoovers for the price of one of them. The hoover usually lasts several years, so investment wise, makes more sense to go with a cheaper brand that peforms well according to consumer reports testing.
